Tale of Two Rap Divas!

Well looks who’s back for another near-miss post about modern-day idiosyncrasies. Today we set our eyes on modern pop culture and its influence on the younger generation. We don’t have to look far at all because we have two legendary artists who are the antithesis of modern-day feminist culture aka (Boss-Bitch) No disrespect intended. A Boss-Bitch in the world of hip-hop is a true Diva. She is revered as that of an elder statesman or a member of royalty. And as we know not many can share the throne with a Queen aka (Boss-Bitch) now let’s get on with this article before I get flagged because I’m writing about well you know (Bitches) lol just kidding I know some of the peeps mad but not as mad as when your daddy walked in the room when I dropped by…lol.

I know I’m treading on thin ice with this one so it better be right, or I can be canceled oh that already happened so I’m good. The world of rap music like many other things in the culture had been dominated by men. There were the occasional female rappers here and there sprinkled in for some flavor, but it was all about the guys for some time. That all changed when Little Kim got her turn to rock the mic, she used sex and insane lyrics to become the Queen of rap music. During her reign, there were a few other mentionable such as Salt and Pepper as well as MC Lyte. Then a young lady came onto the scene as the rap music that seemed to be polarized to the coastal cities had now traveled down towards the south. The emergence of a new breed of artists with totally different sounds and delivery would soon sweep the nation. The emergence of southern rappers became the new thang they were somehow able to really mix R&B into their sound. The result was intoxicating music that you could dance to not just bob your head and whatnot.

Although many rappers were coming from Atlanta. Some artists from Louisiana came in and stole the show led by Master P and No Limit Records. P was one of the first Rapper turn music moguls that showed other artists how to really get paid in the game. Birdman took the stage and introduced the world to Juvenile and Wayne. Juvenile set the block on fire and Wayne would eventually take over the scene. Wayne would form his own label called Young Money Entertainment and he signed Nicky Minaj. Now that YouTube had established itself as the go-to for music videos as MTV was on a decline because of the internet. Many people were also looking at Yahoo music for the latest coolest rap and hip-hop videos. The advancement in smartphones helped usher in a whole new world of people engaging in the culture worldwide. Nicky Minaj had a unique vibe as she could flow very smoothly on the beat, she also did different characters while recording her songs. It was funny to hear her becoming these different people and to be honest nobody else really did this. The genius of all of this was her ability to change styles and inflection points in her delivery and stay on beat. This would become the trademark of her sound but the coolest thing about Nicky was she’s writing her own lyrics. After her initial introduction on some mix tapes and signing with Young Money Entertainment she became the it girl if you needed a fire-ass collaboration. All this happened before she dropped her first CD. In April 2007, Minaj released her first mixtape “Playtime Is Over”. One year later she made another mixtape “Sucka Free” which made her Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards. (Courtesy Google)
