Is there a better charity for helping veterans?

The Wounded Warrior Project spends only 58% of donations on veteran’s programs with the rest going to fundraising, politics, and huge salaries for at least 11 officials, including chief executive Steve Nardozzi’s salary of $330,000 in 2014. Is there a better charity for helping veterans?

I would say there are other charitable organizations besides the Wounded Warrior Project that may specialize in helping Veterans with other specific needs. Many Veterans have various degrees of difficulties in reintroducing themselves into society. Most people are aware of the physical trauma of military service, but few know the hardships of mental and emotional damage that Veterans continue to go through. There is a small organization called BWA or Broken Warriors Angels that was started by a former US service member that helps the veterans who get lost between the cracks and get left behind.

No Man Left Behind has been an adopted ethos for our US service members for some time but is it being followed? If we look at a growing segment of the US homeless population, we find former servicemen and women are well represented. According to Google About one-third of the adult homeless population are veterans. America’s homeless veterans have served in World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iraq (OEF/OIF), and the military. s anti-drug cultivation efforts in South America, and elsewhere.

One of the biggest problems facing many homeless veterans is access to mental health care. During a recent discussion I had with Fred Alvarado I learned that many homeless veterans suffer from PTSD and often self-medicate. The majority of these vets often find themselves jobless as well. This starts the downward spiral that often lasts the rest of their lives. Getting clean and sober with help from mental health experts is what many who serve in this community believe can start the road to recovery. Couple all of this with food insecurity and heavy drug addiction and we have a recipe for disaster.
